Slow HDD?

I'm getting between 14 and 40mb/sec transfer speed on my SATA HDD, and it's a bit noisy (not the about to die HDD noise though)

Is this speed why my PC seems so slow?

P4 HT 3.0ghz, 2.5gb RAM btw.

What make/model of disk is it?
How are you measuring the speeds?

It's a WDC WD1600JS-00MHB0(160gb) and I tested it with the HD Tune Pro (trial version!)

To be honest its more likely the P4 at fault, I'd guess.

They may have seemed quick back in the day..... but its a tad old hat by todays standards

That's not the quickest drive the world's ever seen but I would have expected it to be a bit quicker than you're seeing.

Can you post a screenshot of the HD Tune trace?

A good defrag, disc clean etc may be of use to you. other than that it could just be that the drive is experiencing issues with the slower controller on the motherboard. get it cleaned and report back mate
