Slow raid?

Ive been talking to Gurusan and my raid seems ver slow comparied to his

ive got 3 raptors 2x74gb 8mb's and 1x74gb16mb

ive hdtuned it below what do you guys think

im on the intel raid on a p5q3 mobo so i think i must have set something up wrong its got the default stripe (128k i think) is there something i can do to increase performance other than getting new drives.

It's definitely limited somewhere although the two slow disks and one quick disk won't be helping.

Have you got the Intel Matrix Storage wotsit installed and caching enabled in it?

no ive never heard anything of this intel matrix storage can u ilaborate?

Intel Matrix Storage Manager. It's a GUI (also comes with updated drivers etc) for managing the RAID setup, it needs to be installed to let you alter some of the caching functions on the array.

ok ive installed that but i dont see what its supposted to do other than tell me what setup ive got

You need to enable advanced mode in the view menu then click on your raid volume. In the information pane you can see if write back cache is enabled. If it isn't then right click on the volume and enable the write back cache - then try benching it again. It may make a big difference to your benchmark result.

Also in Device Manager->Disk Drives->right click, ->Properties->Policies->Optimize for performance should be selected (and will be greyed out), also tick "Enable write caching on this disk" and "Enable advanced performance" OK etc...

You also should have the Intel chipset drivers installed, 9.1.0.1014
