I've got Sky Broadband set up, and am getting a really slow wireless connection. The router is reading an 8000kbps download speed, while wirelessly I can't even load songs in Spotify.

It's running one of the Sky branded Netgear routers.

Any ideas? Thanks :D

Signal strength? Any other routers in the area possibly on the same channel? Check your IP profile and see if your ISP are capping you.

Could be many a thing.

Speedtest Tell us your speeds on there please.

Is it the same if you use a cable, or transfer something within the network?

There won't be an IP profile if you're on an LLU service and Speedtest.net is a useless test.

I've tried changing the channel on the router, and it has helped a little. I'll bring out my laptop when I get home tonight, and see how the connection is via an ethernet.

Signal strength isn't the issue, it's absolutely fine, and I've had a look and we're no longer on the same channel as anyone in the vicinity.

what's a good test then?

Well you don't know whether the problem's with the internet connection or wireless, so trying a cable would be a good starting point. If you want to test the internet connection, something like ThinkBroadband's test files are pretty reliable.

Hence why I said to try BT's speed tester, Generally reliable and gives a little more information on the line.

Can try to eliminate things one thing at a time.

Yep, I'm on the Sky LLU service, so the BT Tester won't do much for me :D

I was out all evening yesterday, so didn't get round to testing it with an ethernet. That said, the wi-fi is considerably faster since I changed the channel, so I may just leave it alone. Cheers guys, I'll post back if it slows up again :)
