hey.

last 2 days the internet is running patheticly slow, slower then 512kb's. Currently im on Pipex (think its talk talk now) 8mb normal speeds around 1500/1800kb's, been fine for a year with no problems. My Router stats are below

Stream Type Actual Data Rate
Up Stream 430 (Kbps.)
Down Stream 151 (Kbps.)
Operation Data
Operation Data Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 12 dB 8 dB
Attenuation 76 dB 57 dB

Defect Indication
Indicator Name Near End Indicator Far End Indicator
Fast Path FEC Correction 0 51712
Interleaved Path FEC Correction 0 0
Fast Path CRC Error 0 7221
Interleaved Path CRC Error 0 0
Loss of Signal Defect 0 ---
Fast Path HEC Error 0 0
Interleaved Path HEC Error 0 0

Any help appreciated thanks.

Greetings,

With a attenuation like that i would say move to the master or test socket and check it again,
If there is no change in the status contact your service provider.

was around the same in the master socket, but after like 10 restarts its back to normal. it did this yesterday, then the downstream noise margin gets lower and lower and it disconnects.

heres the normal line stats.

Stream Type Actual Data Rate
Up Stream 424 (Kbps.)
Down Stream 1509 (Kbps.)
Operation Data
Operation Data Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 12 dB 12 dB
Attenuation 76 dB 59 dB

Defect Indication
Indicator Name Near End Indicator Far End Indicator
Fast Path FEC Correction 0 18
Interleaved Path FEC Correction 28 0
Fast Path CRC Error 0 8
Interleaved Path CRC Error 32 0
Loss of Signal Defect 0 ---
Fast Path HEC Error 0 0
Interleaved Path HEC Error 7 0

The attenuation of 76db is massive. With a long line you generally see about 50-60db and a SNR of 5db for a stable connection.

Something definitely wrong there with a 76db attenuation I would expect the Noise Margin to be around 3db or 4db not 12db.
If you have proved it the same to the master socket and removed your internal wiring from the equation then I would report it to your Service Provider or BT.
Have you anything else plugged into the master socket or just the router/modem and have you tried a new DSL filter (assuming its not the new NTE5 with built in filter)

Orded a new modem to replace my 4 yr old 3com router. I have contacted my isp they finally loged a fault in the system and i should recieve a phone call today with the conclusion i hope.

ok so i got a phone call today from the bt engineer saying hes fixed the fault on the line.

but... im really struggling setting up my new adsl modem. Netgear DGN2200, it gets the adsl signal and goes green, it just will not authentacate and go green tried the same setting from my old router, i just can not figure it out:mad:
