Slow SSD performance

Hi all

I was transferring some data to my 2nd SSD and noticed it was only transferring at 100MB/s, yet it's a WD Black 750, so should be seeing >1GB/s

I've run crystal disk and as suspected, the numbers are considerably lower than they should be.

Any ideas?

This feels like some hybrid game of 20 questions/guess who. If you want answers we need info.

Is the other drive an SSD or mechanical? (You mention second SSD but don’t state you’re copying from the first).
Is the other drive local or on a network share?
If not is the other drive AHCI based?
Is the WD 750 over 75% full?
Have you filled the cache and it’s copying it out?
Is something else IO/CPU intensive running at the same time?
Have you checked the firmware is current?
Have you used a slot with shared PCIe lanes?

Some specs may also help (drives/board/CPU etc.)

All SSD based. Have checked to make sure that filled M.2 slots are not impacting the single sata port I have.

2x M.2 only with a graphics card and a WiFi card.

I took the graphics card out to see if it was a PCIe Lane bottleneck and no difference. I have swapped the M.2 pots and again, no difference.

The drive I’m having issues with is new and newly formatted as NTFS, so there’s nothing on the drive. I have checked firmware updates. Windows is freshly installed too.

Even with the cache filled I would expect it to maintain higher transfer speeds than 100MB/s sustained - the 500GB sata based M.2 blue was able to sustain 490 wit the same tasks

Ran crystal disk mark and the results were max 400 ish on read and 170 write.
