Slow SSD Speeds :(

Just finished my new build and my SSD is a lot slower than its supposed to be!

Running a Phenom X6 1090T, Gigabyte GA 990FXA UD3 and 8GB DDR3

I would have thought the speeds would be a lot better on this Sata 3 board? Or is it a bad chip?

SSD is a Corsair Force 3 120GB

Put it in an different sata port. In the bios have you got it set to AHCI? rather then IDE which is default.

The 3 most important things for getting optimal SSD performance are:

- Using the correct port. Ideally, you want to use an Intel/AMD Sata 6 Gbps port. If you haven't got one, use a Marvell SATA 6 Gbps port. If you haven't got one of those either, use an Intel/AMD SATA 3 Gbps port.
- Using AHCI mode. Make sure whichever SATA controller you're using is set to AHCI in the BIOS. If you've already installed Windows, you'll need to change a registry key before switching from IDE/Compatibility mode to AHCI mode (Google is your friend).
- Having correctly aligned partitions. If you install Windows 7 directly to an empty SSD, it'll do this automatically. If you created and formatted partitions manually then they won't be aligned and you'll need to find a program to fix this for you (there are many but most aren't free).

Im not sure what port im using, as far as I am aware, all of the ports are the same...

Try the ATTO Disk Benchmark.

That's the test Corsair use when they quote maximum speeds.

Just found something useful, by changing the data type you get much better performance

Still not quite up to spec but a lot closer!
