I noticed my SSD speeds are slower than they should be.

I installed Samsung Magician to check the firmware is up to date.

I've tried Googling but not been able to fix it. Any ideas please?

Try a different cable or slot in motherboard

Which sata port are you plugged into on the board? You have a choice of 6x sata2 ports off the chipset, 2x sata3 ports off the marvell controller and 2x Gigabyte sata2 ports.

You seem to be somewhere near the sata2 speeds.

I'll give that a go tomorrow. You think the Sata 2 Intel port would be quicker than the Sata 3 Marvell?

Found a later version of Magician, this has given different speeds.

Is there better software for checking this?

Everyone always said to avoid the Marvell controller ports back in the day, they were pretty terrible. You could well find that the SATA2 Intel port will perform better. It's not the end of the world either. Unless you're doing a lot of large file transfers, you still get the majority of the benefits of an SSD even at SATA 2 speeds.

Decided to use Crystal Disk Mark, and the sata 2 port is quicker!

Intel Sata 2 port

Sata 2 with Rapid mode enabled. I can only assume those numbers aren't actually right. But I'll keep it turned on for the time being. Can't see how it'll do any harm

I had a marvel controller on my x58 board and that could only reach 400mb read and write but was a terrible controller so I moved it to the intel one and got a max of 250mb read and write.

i stuck with the intel as I had os issues and all sorts using the marvel controller.

rapid mode uses pc resources to get them speeds, I just had it disabled on my Samsung 860.
