Slow USB transfer rate

Hi,

I am running windows XP and have a 500GB ext HD connected via USB 2.0 to the PC. All was fine until last week when I done a clean install of XP. Now my USB transfer rates to/from the ext HD are extremely slow. I have updated my motherboard with the latest bios and drivers but still the problem still persists.

One thing I have noticed which did not happen prior to the slow USB trasfer rates is that when I connect a USB device to my computer a message is diplayed saying "The device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed USB 2.0 port".

Any help or advise on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, this is what my device manager looks like now.

When I look into the properties of the ALi USB 2.0 enhanced host controller it says that the device is working properly.

I think you just helped me solve my problem. I just updated the drivers of the host controller and now my USB speeds are much faster. Thanks

i bet you installed with a normal xp disc, then installed service packs after?
