I'm trying to transfer some large files (60GB worth) over on to a Integral 128GB USB 2.0 stick, but at this rate is going to take hours!!

Starts off really fast like 180MB/s, then slows down to a crawl, currently 7.3MB/s. Heck i can download faster than that.

Storage drive is a Seagate 3TB, 7200RPM drive / ST3000DM001

For my brother, i stream at home for myself.

Surely the USB should work at specificated USB 2.0 speeds? do you think it getting bottlenecked somewhere?

yeah the bottleneck is your usb2 memory stick, your lucky i only get 5 mb per sec with a kingston datatraveller

ive not used a usb3 memory stick but there rated speeds are much faster

you have to look at each usb sticks rated transfer read/write speeds

Just bloody bought the thing too for 40 odd quid

Might have to flog it and get a USB 3.0 one

Do you know if it would be significantly faster transfering to another hard drive via Sata II

For example i have a external 320gb hardrive, can remove the drive itself from the casing and connect via SATA, transfer files then put drive back into its casing (USB again)

Will that be quicker over sata?

yeah sata is faster than usb

not sure on usb3 memory stick over a usb2 port, ive never tried

usb3 stick on a usb3 port will be faster though depending on the stick you use

Yes indeed it would. It is after all a SATA drive, just with a USB bridge.

you need some hot swappable drive bays, then you can plug in and out your hdd when needed ect

they mount in a 5.25" bay at the front of pc,saves a lot of hassle, some cases have them built in
