I recently bought a TP-Link TL-WDN4800 wireless card for my computer as my new mobo only has pcie slots.

When i plug in my phone to the usb on the computer and use 'usb tethering' the take advantage of my phones wifi, my internet speed is realy fast.

when relying only on my network adapter the internet speed is realy slow.

Can somone please help :)

I have the same card, albeit with an aerial upgrade, as the stock aerials hidden behind the case weren't getting a good signal at all! It seems to work OK...

What drivers are you running?
What is signal strength like using inSSIDer?

That's where I'd start...

Im having unrelated computer issues at the mo that are preventing me from properly answering that, but i can say that i did update to the latest drivers, and from the windows signal strength bars, my signal strength was good.
Currently reinstalling windows (another problem) so i will see what this does, but for the first few hours that i used it i got less than 1 mbs download speed using speedtest.net, but when i used tethering on my phone, i got 7mbs download speed.

Is there any optimising settings you used when first installing, also is there any router settings you would recomend, my router is 802.11g.

thanks for the reply :)

If you're struggling with signal to the router (check the signal strength) then either get a better adapter or look into Powerline adapters which use the internal wiring of your home to transmit signal.

Yes you need to check signal strength. Download and use inSSIDer. We'll then be able to provide better advice.
