hi all. ive got a up to 8mg speed with (oh no)talktalk but never get more than 1.5mg and this is up and down all the time. ive done a test on my line and it says i should get at least 6mg ok. ive done the takeing the speeds three times a day thing and they are all over. could i have something set up wrong in pc or modem. new to all this. thanks for any help.

Somewhere within the router's web interface there'll be a page that shows what speed it's actually connected at.
What "test on your line" did you run? Where did you "take the speeds" from?

i did them on a site called speedtest.net. just had a look on modem and it says 2272 dowm 288up kbps.i have togo to work now are we ok to pick this up later on. thanks.

hello does this sound right as i said i get slow internet speed i read somewhere that if i phoned talktalk and asked them to change my noise margin to 6db this might help. does anyone think it will. thanks.

If you're paying for up to 8Mbps (and some test reckons you could get 6Mbps), and getting fixed rate 2Mbps, you're getting a third of what the "test" thinks you could get - does that sounds right?

Does your modem give values for SNR margin and attenuation?

no it does not. had a look on modem this what it said.SNR Margin Down/Up(dB) 33.0/27.0
Attenuation Down/Up(dB) 31.0/15.0. what do you think.

And it still says it's connected at 2272/288? If it does, you're on fixed rate.
Getting TT to change the target SNR margin wouldn't make any odds, mainly because you're not on a rate adaptive product.

i it still says that does this mean even thou i signed up for 8 its on a fixed 2mg set up. im even paying for it.
