I have a friend who has a 3200 Winchester and 1gb Ram.

He has it clocked to 2.4ghz.

He can unrar a film (4.35gb in under 2 minutes)

I've seen a screenshot so i know he's not lying

My spec is this -

Athlon Opteron 146 @2.6Hz
DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro
2Gb G.Skill ZX
BFG nVidia GeForce 7800 GT OC VIVO
Hitachi Deskstar 80GB SATA-II 8MB Cache
Hitachi Deskstar 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache
Hitachi Deskstar 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache
HDA X-Mystique
Hiper Modular Type-R 580W PSU

I'm unrarring a 4.3gb DVD and it just took 7/8 minutes :o

Why is it so slow?

Andy

Andy....Is your life really that busy that you cant wait to unrar a private home movie in 8 mins;)

Unless of course its a Home adult movie in which i would invest in a server just for this!

Have your RAR temp folder directory on a different phyical disk to where your actual RAR file is. You can change this in winrar options.

mine takes about 2mins 30 secs, drive is western digital 400 16mb cache
my seagate 300gb drive takes about 5mins, all be it its on the slower controller (promise ) and unraring a 4.35gb file is nothing to do with processor speed
more memory and transfer rate of your motherboard IO

your mate must be running raid 0?
because when i raid my 2 300gb seagate drives it takes 2 mins this again is on the slower promise controller and not my intel.
