I have a working m2 nvme PCie sm951 (256GB) that I pulled from a dying lenovo x1 carbon. It is the AHCI version (MZ-HPV2560).
I want to convert it to a usb flash drive (and yes I know it will be slower than it can be but I dont want to throw it away, I am not that bothered about getting the latest lightning fast speed. It should be at least as fast as an ordinary flash drive) and I want to spend as little as possible on it.
1) What CHEAP enclosure should I buy to convert it. There seems to be a lot of the other kind (that does not do AHCI) around but I want one that i am sure will work with this AHCI one. Any CHEAP suggestions?
2) What software will I need to use to format/prepare it? I dont know wether it is formatted with MBR or GPT. Preferably something really SIMPLE with a GUI. It will be used on a windows system and I am sure iIwill have to redo partion/s etc.
3) I have spent hours looking through a ridiculous amount of youtube videos about NVME's, M2's etc most of which seem to contradict each other or least deny the physical existence of the AHCI NVME I have. Where can I get some good instruction about all this that is comprehensively knowledgeable without being TOO complicated. I previously had a lot of experience of redoing and installing hard drives but that was years ago and recently had a shock to find my windows install usb couldnt format a drive because it was GPT not mbr. I thought that usb would install on everything. Dont get me started on uefi!. It seems my info is a few years out of date. Is it still possible these days to make a usb that will install windows on anything?.
Many thanks for info
