Hi all,

Not sure where to post this so I thought I'd try here.

The problem I'm having is that for a project I've been asked to create a simple 3d interpretation of 2 joint muscles working in the Hip/Thigh region.

Now this is all well and dandy with 3d Max but the problem is that I cannot think of any way to export the models and their bone structures + animations (if needed) to a 3D viewer.

The need for this is that the project specification entitles that not everyone will have access to 3D Studio Max or associated 3D software.

From my own searches I've discouvered that there are many lightweight model viewing packages available, but nothing truly universal, like Flash or HTML based content.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for this?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm just starting to look at vrml now, basically what I need is some sort of lightwight client program with the ability to view 3d models constructed within 3D Studio Max and to also be able to display either animations associated with the models, or the ability to manipulate them in real time without having 3D max open.

The models will be muscle joints in the Hip to Thigh area and as such I need a method of allowing people with no prior knowledge of 3D software to be able to access the models and use them.

Is this at all possible?

Many thanks.

I know 100% that you can:

Export the 3d Studio files as their native format,
Import them into Blender3d (which is free)
Create a "Game" (it isn't a game as such, but another word for a standalone program that can be run on its own) where cursor keys/mouse functions can pan/zoom the world.

What I'm not 100% it whether the kinetics of the 3DS files would export/import over properly.

Having said that, Blender3d does have a basic kinetic/bones function and while it's not the easiest application to learn, I don't think anyone with 'good' 3dStudio experience would have many problems.

Thank you for the reply,

The work I have constructed so far is using bones and dummies to get a basic muscle stretch / squash style motion to work when the leg bones move.

This is then visually adapted using skin modifiers over poly objects to give the impression of a muscle shape contracting and stretching as a reaction to the movement of the leg.

Would Blender be able to cope with this?

Thanks again.

Having spent the last few hours checking over Blender it does'nt appear to be able to offer what I'm looking for without causing more headaches, but thanks for the suggestion anyways.

As for Unity, im looking more for something lightweight like Octaga player or VR4Max only with a more hands on approach.

Can Flash handle 3d objects yet?

flash can handle 3d objects (collada) with papervision. not sure if it does max bones

to be honest i would probably prerender the animation to a png sequence, and add interactivity via timeline scrubbing in flash. wouldnt be possible to change the viewpoint though
