Small business Firewall

Thanks guys.. the main router/modem is a BT business smart hub, is the firewall that is any on this any good?
Or would getting an additional watchguard/draytek offer better security?

I would imagine it will do what most basic routers do (rely heavily on NAT ) rather than firewalling you as such.

Draytek/Watchguard offer much better security than a BT hub. Whenever we receive Business Smart hubs at work I just send them straight back for recycling.

Watchguard is significantly better than a Draytek. They are also constantly adding new security features. If you get the total security license you get all the new stuff like DNS Watch etc.

I need Wifi now too.. so you guys recommend that i ditch the BT supplied router and use another or use thr BT supplied router in conjunction with the likes of a watchguard box?

So WatchGuard Firebox T15-W + 1Y Standard Support (WW) 400Mbit/s hardware firewall WGT16001-WW (£380.78 inc VAT) is good?

Also Pcfarrar is it possible to know what reseller you are using? Thanks again

No offence but I think if you're struggling at this point then you need to consider whether getting somebody else to supply and manage a firewall for you is a better choice to make.

No that's really expensive, it's also the standard support so you don't get any of the advanced firewall features. You need 1 Year Basic Security or 1 Year Total Security.

If you don't have much experience with Watchguard it's probably better getting a cheap Draytek and then using Cisco Umbrella with it.

Good luck with the 2862 I bought one some months ago and sent it back, it kept dropping the line even with the firmware update for UK BT, I am now using a pfsnese router/firewall I built myself using a dell T20, i used the dell because I had it hanging around doing nothing and it had the 5 year extended warranty!

Darn I shall have to see how it goes.. it has had quite good reviews the 2862. Thanks for the heads above

I’ve got loads of Draytek 2862’s running at work, not had a single problem. I bought 10 more of them a few weeks ago. I deploy them with Cisco umbrella at small offices and they work fine.

Maybe I was unlucky and got a duff one I know Draytek have a good name, though I did read else where that this model has problems (some times).
