Small but annoying USB eject problem

I have a PC based around an OCUK bundle, containing an Asus P8Z77-V (Intel Series 7). A while back, I added an Akasa card reader / USB hub from OCUK.

My problem is with what happens sometimes, when I eject a USB device. For example, when I eject a WD External USB hard drive, the connected USB hub is ejected instead, leaving a yellow bang (code 47) in Device manager. The only way to get it back is to reboot the PC (uninstall/scan doesn't work).

This wouldn't be a problem if I was a bit more cowboy, and just unplugged the thing. But I have these drives set to "Better performance" in Device Manager Policies, so they register an official complaint if unplugged unexpectedly.

Funnily enough, this doesn't happen with flash drives.

I've tried uninstalling devices and letting Windows find them again, but the same thing always happens. Also, it happened on Win7 Pro x64, and still happens in Win10 Pro x64 (upgrade). All drivers up to date AFAIK.

Any suggestions, please?

I should add that the ejected hub is listed as a "Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub" and is a component of the Akasa InterConnect EX.

I had the exact same hub and it gave me no end of headaches in Windows 7 64bit with constant disconnects of the hub. Ended up junking it.

This is the second card reader I've bought from OCUK, and whilst it's been much better than the crappy Bitfenix one I had before, it's not been without its own problems. First off I couldn't actually switch on the motherboard without disconnecting one of the power lines first (and reconnecting it later); and secondly, I've had this weird eject problem with some USB devices. Software support is a bit iffy at Akasa.
Funnily enough, Ted, I see that you were one of the people who like it in my original query! ;-)
