recently moved from covering moon miles to having a daily commute of 2 miles each way and literally bugger all personal miles, few work miles which will most likely be some local runs and jumping around covering general work stuff I don't need to transport passengers or anything bulky

decided I want a small good looking runabout that is current(ish) and will look good wrapped with company branding.

options on my list so far

fiesta St van
vw caddy

budget up to say 6/7k not fussy on fuel type or performance

what is important, fresh looks and (subjective) will look good wrapped
half decent stereo as standard.
half/full leather available as an option
cruise control

a quick Autotrader search

Citroen Berlingo 1.6
Renault Kangoo Maxi 1.5

maybe its me but they certainly are not as good looking as say a fiesta st van or a caddy. Going to wrap it as a bit of advertising so something that looks good is a must.

Edit/// Saw the budget after, sorry. Will be more than 7k I imagine.

I have a Transit Courier Sport. Just like driving a little fiesta. Side doors unlike the ST Van, sat nav, AC, cruise etc.. Easily 50+MPG.

Brilliant little van :)

Nissan NV200s are ace little vans, we had one in work for 3 or 4 years and were really gutted when the contract changed and it had to go back.

we've got a fully loaded VW caddy now which while better specced with satnav, cruise and dual zone climate isn't as nice to drive as the nissan, the NV200 also has sliding doors on both sides and it's amazing how massively annoying it's been going to a van with only 1 on the passenger side.

Bob do you know what actual MPG you were getting on the NV200? Been looking at them as a replacement for my astravan that I use to do around 24k motorway miles a year.

Hi, we averaged about 46MPG worked out at the pump, the onboard computer was about 5 or 6 out if i remember. http://www.fuelly.com/car/nissan/nv200/2012/sovietspybob/316363 Bear in mind that as it was a works van with a fuel card it did get driven very hard sometimes depending on who was driving it.

Just FYI i did have 1 breakdown in it, the throttle stopped responding but the RAC got it working enough so i could drive to a dealer and it turned out it needed a new ECU. It was done under warranty as it was only 2 years old at the time, i think the cost was only about £650 when i saw the paperwork afterwards which i was surprised how cheap it would have been.

If you are not VAT registered and dont need it for carrying goods a van makes no sense for your needs. For a start you will pay £250 a year in road tax.

Thanks for that (and sorry for the thread hijack!)

Given up on the cabbie work @233? Or just a break?

business has grown to the point I can't be on the road any longer, so now full time in the office.

I've went from north of 120k miles a year to a daily commute of less than 2 miles. christ I even walked to work yesterday

Do you honestly need a van in that case? Do you have a 'weekend' car?

I've got an omega thats been off the road for err 7 years as a "long term project"

that said I've been looking at Cooper S and alfa mitos 155/170s today

I'm just thinking such a small regular commute is begging for diesel issues. Petrol vans ain't all that common. 2 miles should take a healthy bloke about 30mins to walk and at the end of the day it's 4 miles of exercise a day which isn't exactly a bad thing.

Unless you'll also be putting some miles on it at the weekend I'd think about a small petrol run-about or ditch it altogether and get yourself something fun. Like a Cooper S.

utterly lost lol,

I have no need to go and buy a car urgently. but do want something. thought about a van as I love the look of the little fiesta sport vans, tempting to get a petrol one of those. and a few tweaks but as I said I've been eyeing up Mitos and MINIs today and went off on a tangent. the van was an initial though and just get it wrapped (solid bit of business advertising as well if I venture out and about. but the lure of a. cheap little hot hatch appeals as well.

any other suggestions that would compare to a Cooper R53 or a MIto 155/170?

Glad the business side is clearly on the up!

It’ll probably do you the world of good cutting out the mileage just keep up the walking mate. :)

probably, but definitely want something be it a van or hot-hatch or even resurrect the rusty omega

BTW having owned both a MiTo 155 and Cooper S - the Cooper S is the better, if older, car.
