I had one of the older Sony ultra portables (T2 I think it was) but long since got rid of it. Horrible machines, the ultimate triumph of style over substance and slow even for what they are.

If I was buying one today (and I might be to replace my work dell D420) I'd probably look at a Lenovo x61 or Toshiba R500, more business focuses and not as stylish but better for it.

EeePc definitely worth a look.

Had experience with the sony TX series and found them to be quite flimsy for sonys. There's not a day when I can recommend Packard Bell either.

Why disregard the Eeeeeeeeeeeee? The Eeeeeeeeeeeeee is awesome.

It's a different market, either you want a web browsing machine with a 9" screen like the Eee or you want a serious business ultraportable. Sure the Eee will attract some people who would have gone for an ultraportable previously but in general, if you were prepared to spend £1k+ then the Eee isn't a sudden substitute for that...
