Small Directx problem

I have directx 11 installed on windows 7 atm. Come to play an oldish game and it says it needs d3dx9_42.dll from directx9. When I was using dx10 I could install dx9 along side it and have all the files there working fine. But now the installer is saying it wont instal cause a newer version has been found, which is fair enough. But it leaves me unable to play this game. Any ideas?

I think you can download the missing dll and just place it in the directory of the game that needs it. Which is what I had to do with EVE.

it did on my win 7 64bit laptop
