I'm looking for a small capacity drive for my new build ie <160gb and looking for sugestions. I've read some posts on the sammy F1's but they seem to have been problamatic, also as i'm on a tight budget and the fact that my NAS holds all my important stuff should I just go for something like a Western WD740 Raptor? would these work ok in RAID 1? or the WD1600AAJS?

If you can afford raptors in raid then yes these would be very good and very quick.

That WD is a good little drive and great for a small budget. you have to very different ideas in very different budgets though, how much are you looking to spend?

I got my main os`s dual boot on a 150 g velociraptor and i must say i am less than impressed with the speed, not raided but still i was expecting faster speeds particularly in boot times but i can see little increse over my previous normal hdd
Game level loading times are quicker though
I am waiting for the price of SSD to drop and will be getting one of these to try i think
If you can justify/afford it then maybe consider a SSD?

Would have to get refurb raptors as couldn't afford new, looking about 35/40 per drive if I go down the raid route. For what I will use the PC for I can't justify SSD at the moment.

not sure you'd manage raptors for £35-40 but if you can and they are from a reliable source then get them. Otherwise I'd go for a couple of the WD blue drives.
