Small electric srewdriver

This is like the child's version of having a rattle gun. Yes you can do things by hand but it is far easier and quicker to get the air/power tools out.

My arms thank me for it after a day tinkering in the garage.

When working with wood I will always use my little impact driver although with small electronics I just get by with hand tools.

The more expensive ones that have motion control are much better for using on items such as laptops. Basically they turn when you twist them so much more control and less likely to damage the heads on very small screws.

you take the same design dimensions and you shrink them by 50% it might take an extra pump or two but its smaller...

You're looking at it wrong, these are for tiny things like phones where you need to pull a billion screws out to change a battery.

I suspect you're thinking of the larger ones, like this:

...Which I don't understand either. Slow, horrible things. Just give me a proper drill and I'm good to go.

^^the pistol grip style electric screwdrivers have their uses...somewhere in between an impact driver and manual (or wowstick etc) in terms of torque, weight and precision...woodworking, light DIY etc

I don't get the need for electric screw drivers surely it's counter productive.

someone must have made one that transfers the pushing force of a human into a twisting motion on a screw without the need for batteries and with far higher torque than a tiny motor can provide
I guess you can say the same about electric ratchets but I use mine ALL the time.

I wouldn't use a ratchet screwdriver on delicate stuff, the amount of pressure needed to make it work is far too much.

Probably a tricky balance for someone who might struggle with the dexterity very fine jobs require - a ratcheting screwdriver can make it far easier but also does open up more potential for overdoing it. I've a couple of smaller ratchet screwdrivers (which don't really require any additional pressure) which personally I find a godsend for certain jobs but I do have a high degree of dexterity and mechanical sympathy.

but I mean why does electric and motors need to be involved? surely it's simple mechanics
yea okay it's not small but it could be.

seems like an electric fad rather than actually being the best option surely

I guess the electric versions are disposable by nature though and not designed to last even a single life time

An electrician came along to do some work and was using one of those.

Then left it behind.

Was really nice to use but clearly the electrician thought so too since he came back specially for it :p

Is this for small electrical items, or to use in DIY?

I've got one of those little wowstick things and it certainly isn't going to be putting any sized screw through a piece of wood.

still have one of these in the family, must be 30 years old at least!
brilliant things

See you on Dragon's Den.

I use my wow-stick a lot. One of the few tools to escape from the garage/shed due to regular use.
Really great little tool!!

Also, pretty much anyone who has actually seen me use it wanted to buy one straight away...

Why on earth would you want to use something like that over an electric screwdriver.

One bit I don't think has been mentioned is the fact these have a LED ring light at the end - amazingly handy when I've been on my back, reaching into the depths of my case trying to find that screw. I would highly rate these - obviously not going to replace an impact driver, but likewise I wouldn't take an impact driver to my motherboard..... :)

3D printed a stand for mine today. I did have one of a similar design but the bits were quite tight and the stick itself wasn't held as firmly as this one.

Because the old one was so tight, I didn't load it up with the bits but I will with this one. Just got to find where I put the box now :)

I have been looking at 3D Printing a case that holds the 3 tubes, the wowstick and the rest of the accessories but also has a power bank built in. Not got very far with it tho.

My cheap Aldi electric screwdriver is my most used tool at home.

I rent a flat so no serious DIY but the time and hand/forearm agony it saves when assembling flatpack furniture or other small jobs has paid it's paltry £15 price back a million times over!

wowstick bits seem pretty cheap - xiomi were reputed to have transferred manufacture to china -
Wowstick 1F Pro X1 X2 X3 S2 Steel Screws Bit (56PCS)

I'm always paranoid about buying cream-cheese bits that subsequently knack screws heads, so I think I'll stick with getting individual manual german wera bits/drivers,
- it's like some of the halfords lifetime guarantee stuff - if it has ruined a bolt head you're in a world of pain

the original yankee screwdriver ? grandfather always said be careful not to stab yourself.
