Small Plug In Hybrid

Looking for a small (not mini) plug in hybrid to replace the last family diesel as all other car are now EV. Something like the A250e seems to tick most of the boxes but having been hit with massive repair bills with previous MBs I would like to explore other options.
Has to be a hatch with +40 miles of EV range and ideally without a turbocharged engine.

Budget / Age?

The newer (2024- ) VW Group 19.7kWh MQB PHEVs might suit you even though they're all 1.5 turbos - around 60 to 75 miles of range, choice of Golf, A3, Leon, Formentor etc. or bigger stuff like Passat, Tiguan, Superb, Kodiaq...

Naturally aspirated, I suspect Toyota is the best bet to explore and maybe newer Chinese manufacturers like BYD.

Renault has naturally aspirated engines. Looking for 3 year old ones as I have access to previously leased vehicles.

You might be able to eek 40 miles from the older 13kWh Golf PHEV but the 14.TSI is still turbo charged. Kia/Hyundai again close to 40 miles for the Kia Niro/Ioniq.

I guess even 20 "electric" miles would be enough as the first part of the commute will be done withe the ICE.

I would take a look at BMW. I think they have made some good plug-in hybrids. I think the Harry's Garage YouTube channel did a review of one (probably an expensive one though).

Not sure how I can justify paying the same for a Yaris or an A250e!

Our 2019 PHEV Ionic is still going strong - We only use Hybrid on journeys over 30 miles (return) and fuel lasts ages.

Went with the A3 at the end. At least the turbo is covered with their warranty for a few more years.

My point was that's why the Yaris is more expensive than you'd expect..
