Hi guy's i'm looking to build a small powerful NAS system that i can use in my home. Minimum memory i would like is 4tb with plenty room to increase. Any build set-ups would be great, i had a look on the overclockers website but i wasn't sure if there might be better set-ups. Money isn't really an issue although i wouldn't want to spend more money for little gain.

Also is it worth sticking an SSD card in a NAS system or is it pointless?

Hi i am same boat at the moment not sure to go netgear readynas 4 bay or buffalo equivalent or build one based around the HP ProLiant MicroServer G7 N54L 1P 4GB-U Non-hot Plug SATA 150W PS Server and using freenas having never set one up before looks pretty easy and can add upto 4 drives i am assuming you meant 4tb storage not 4tb memory that would be bonkers

so which way to go

Hp server £129 with cpu ram and 4 empty bays
or
Netgear readynas £129 all in with 4 empty bays

to backup all my photos and videos from my gaming pc

I have just upgraded from an old qnap ts209 with an Hp Server N54L with 2x4tb WD Reds.

Transfered all my data and wow was impressed by the speed i usally have to leave main computer on all night to transfer 1tb of data done it in just a few hours (1gb Connection).

Very impressed with the server best of all you can choose the os you want to run which kind of won if for me as my old qnap hasent been supported for a good few years so wanted the choice.

This setup cost me as much as the old qnap did when i first got it so really well priced just want to get another 2 reds now when funds allow :)
