Looking to get this gravel bit redone in tarmac. Needs a little edging along where the plants are, I'll chop those back ready.
It's approx 8m x 1m

One company had said around £1,200 which seems a bit steep.

Have a few more people coming to quote, of they show up.

What sort of price have people paid, if they've had anything like this done.

Think i would leave it at that price, think i prefer the look of it now
Yes I agree, it currently looks better than tarmac would. But we get randoms park next to it, jump out their cars, kick stone everywhere which we are forever picking up. We have that plastic grid system underneath, but doesn't fully help.
I tend to park away from the wall a bit too and we crush the stones.
So overall, its more practical to have tarmac, over looks.

Can you put up a little fence or posts?

I would put grey block paving down instead of tarmac as its a nicer look and would give a contrast to all the other tarmac areas with their existing edging left in place. New tarmac would not match the other areas anyway and if not done well then bumps and dips over time cannot be fixed and given some cars may bump the curb or park a wheel on it that's a possibility.

However given your tarmac quotes, not sure how much they would want in your area? I now lay my own and the cost is quite low for materials even with a good thick sub base, but small areas do result in more cuts for the area which adds to the time.

Probably cheaper and will break up the tarmac field if done in block paving.

Edit: Was typing this up before the post above.

If the OP is balking at £1,200 to tarmac it, then I doubt 3x or 4x that cost to block pave it is on the cards - although I agree it would look better.

If your goal is to stop people parking alongside the gravel, I'd get some big flag stones put in there, ones tall enough to block car doors from opening.

Just be aware, once it tarmac'd you will probably get the same people parking with 2 wheels up onto it instead of beside it. Regards the pricing, I paid £1k about 18 months ago for a very similar sized strip that extended my existing driveway.

Down to £1.2k, which seems ok, seeing other quotes. Tarmac site said about that price for that size area and if you paid £1k 18 months ago, £200 rise isn't bad.
Guess I was a bit naive!

I don't have any problem with people parking next to it, it's when they just jump out and have no decency to try and not kick stones everywhere.
Hopefully no one will jump up on it, no one's ever tried before or has reason too really.

I would also be conscious people would see that as 'the pavement' and start parking half on it if it was tarmac rather than a more decorative type of finish.
