Hello,

Did a test more than a year ago and just now on 2x250gb 7200.10's 16mb sata2 128kb stripe to compare speed.

The results are :

Higher burst ( this couldnt be due to the mobo tho, 1 year ago I was on ICH7R now on Ich8r ( moved array okay from mobo to mobo) ... )
Higher seek.
Lower sustained read.

As you can see though, the results are visible, but probably so small that they're unnoticable.
Are hdd's generally degrading in speed over time?

I don't think so, only thing could be lots of remapped sectors that might be adding some kind of resource hog to the controller, nothing on the plates themselves that would change anything AFAIK. Interesting test though, might be something there that can't be predicted? Also might be related to changing southbridge though :)

Ahhh k I always thought hdd's performance degrades over time lol, guess not...
Might be something other indeed, perhaps some background app or so.

Btw I might need a new hdd within the next few months, haven't kept in touch with hdd devellopements, I'm looking for 500gb, are the WD AAKS and the SG 7200.10's still the ones to go for ?
