Now is it worthwhile

Going from:

Intel e6850 3.0ghz
MSI G41M-P25 **MATX**
2x 2gb Corsair PC10666 1333mhz DDR3
HIS 4850 1gb
36gb Raptor @ 10,000rpm + 500gb HDD
Dodgy old HP tower
580w Hiper PSU

My plan was to get the following to build my system to:
AMD Athlon X3 450 3.2ghz Tri Core
Gigabyte GA-770-D3L
Kingston 2x 4gb PC10666 1333mhz
Coolermaster Elite 430 + Side Window

While keeping the HDD's 36gb+500gb, GFX 4850 1gb and PSU Hiper 580w...

Is it a worthwhile upgrade for the case, mobo, cpu and memory for £191 delivered?

Over to you guys...

Cheers :)

i would seriously change that PSU. take a look at this link:

Hiper Explosive club

also, doing an upgrade like this will be FAR more worthwhile if you have the funds:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-2100 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black (with 500w Elite Power PSU) £64.99
1 x MSI H67MA-E35 Intel H67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro-ATX Motherboard - (Sandybridge) **B3 REVISION** £64.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT51264BA160A) £49.99
Total : £269.96 (includes shipping: FREE).

that processor can keep up with a phenom II X4 955 in most cases, let alone the athlon X3.

PSU is the cheapest i would recommend. i would have gone for the corsair 430W, but the bundle saves a load of money

*edit*
also, motherboard comes with USB3, SATA 6GB/s and works with all sandybridge processors (no overclocking though :()

Mine isn't the Modular, I believe it to be the Type M. How do those ones fare?

if you do need to save some money, then the pentium chips are still better than the athlon X3 chips:

OK Say I did go the i3 route but used my 4gb Ram, do the Sandybridge i3 allow any overclocking?
sadly not, but even with overclocking the athlon X3 wouldnt be as good as the i3 2100. not sure about the pentium though

*edit*
stulid, OP wanted 8GB RAM. he already has 4GB DDR3 with better timings than the stuff you specced

It's a sad state of affairs when you can't overclock

Might look at Clarkdale i3's...
