There's not much I haven't seen out there on the web, this was unusual and surprising though.

Wish these lived in my town to get rid of the damn pidgeons and seagulls.

edit: I have unknowingly upset some of the members, so I'll explain; it's a hawk killing a magpie by drowning it in a small pond, no blood, no guts. I just thought it was quite interesting how it's learnt to save energy by doing this.

Just so you know I'm not all manly, I did post here many moons ago when a spider freaked me out walking across my lounge.

As much as i dislike magpies i really didn't need to see this, yes i know i shouldn't have clicked but it shouldn't have been posted neither, bit ott imo.

That's really impressive. Yes the noise is horrible, but that stuff happens all the time. Every living thing on the planet needs to eat. Nothing OTT about that video.

Cainer, agreed its the cycle of life, but seeing things die always makes my stomach churn =[

We have a sparrow hawk that comes by our garden sometimes as we live next to a big park, birds nest in our hedge and I've seen it pinch some babies before the bugger!

I am always surprised by how sensitive people are these days. It was posted, presumably, as the OP thought it was interesting that the bird could problem solve, not as a **** fight clip. Townie views make me want to get away from London:p

Highly impressive work from the Hawk!

I can't believe people are so sensitive, the clip header on the link identified what was going to happen!....I suppose these people will be thinking about the wonderful lives the chicken led the next time they are munching on their Fillet Burger!

If you think that video is OTT, then you obviously haven't discovered some of the many other wonderful videos of the Internet. I'm completely desensitised to pretty much anything these days, whilst others would puke.

Surprised me too! Welcome to nature 101 people, the circle of life.

There's tons of stuff like this in nature, the first episode of the BBC program Life had loads of really interesting stuff like this.

GO HAWK!

Seriously, big deal, it's killing it's prey in an easy manor, good on it.

Just for the 'omg poor bird' people...

Yesterday I was driving along, a pigeon flew out into my path I made no move to slow down, hit it, there was a cloud of feathers and when I looked in the rear view it was flapping about on the road with who knows how many broken bones and still was alive. I drove on, didn't slow down a bit.

Oh and for the record I was driving a diesel vehicle that is rubbish on fuel and pollutes the environment no end with rust and fumes.

Hmmm.. I can't help but feel that was more a fluke incident rather than the Sparrow Hawk understanding that he could drown the Magpie.

Whilst it interesting i think this is bad taste for this forum, not a knob gag or gay remark anywhere.

I couldn't have stood there and filmed it because of the damn noise, I'd have thrown a bloody rock at them.
