Hi folks,

My 3TB RED drive is reporting 0% fitness. I'm using SpeedFan as I have done for a decade or more. Please educate me if there are more appropriate tools.

Is this drive kaput?

It was used to mirror a slow moving network file share for about 8 years. It lives/lived in an external caddy.

Nearly 70k power on hours, and 12 pending sectors isn't a great sign. But the tricky bit is guessing how much life it has left, it could run that way for a number of years or go kaput tomorrow.

Thanks for the bad omen. Just logged in and the drive has totally disappeared :cry:

I use Clear Disk Info now, but some people still like CrystalDiskInfo. Post screenshots either or both of these.
As above, the drive seems to have totally gone now. Lucky I did my back-up to the cloud just in time.

I have ran CDI for my other drives though, could you take a look please?

Can anyone help me decipher the above please?

It seems to flip between warning and OK?
What does CrystalDiskInfo say? The above screenshot from Clear Disk Info would be enough for me to backup all the data from it, while waiting for a replacement.

If the drive allows you to, wipe it then go to home on it with a hammer.

What do you mean?

I can't quite work out if it was just a glitch. It is now showing 'OK' with a meagre 798 'powered on' hours.

In fact the thing that was flagged (Error Correction Count) now seems to have disappeared entirely?

Sorry I meant wipe the drive when you get your replacement.
