so searching here someone had a thread on Yale Conexis from 2001.. . but reading reviews on 'forest' site - some people have been locked out due to batter running out (long holiday away)

is there better alternatives? maybe the one where there are mechanical digits and you have to enter your code (they are not smart per se but dont require batteries iirc)

Smart locks are all terrible currently. Don't expect them to be any good for at least another 5-10 years when more companies enter the market. Currently zero competition.

Smart locks are something (at present) I'd never buy.
How do you even get it open if it fails? I guess you have to have access to another door that isn't smart? A lot of people probably don't!

Smart lights are one thing. Locks.. Not for me

I'd agree, i'd only entertain having a smart lock fitted if i had another means of access to the property.

The batteries on them seem to last a decent amount of time, so it's pretty bad luck to have been locked out due to a dead battery.

cheers. i do have another means, back garden/garage.. but its more convenient as we also have 'lodgers' so keys might get lost etc so i was looking at if this would be worth it..

and yes i did look at amazon (i thought we cudnt say the name as its competitor so i said forest site lol) but i guess i was looking for a personal recommendation..as they all look ok but as its expensive i dont want to get one thats might have some pitfalls..

Seen my thread?

Been 2 weeks now since installing, no major problems yet. I got 2 phone tags which stick to the back of mine and my partner's phone so we can open the door quickly.
Not had any issues with battery but we have means of getting into the house through other doors IF the battery plays up.

If you have other types of door lock you might have more options but as I've got a 3 tier multipoint there isn't much to choose from without the locking barrel getting too big.
Don't expect this lock to 'lift the handle' to engage the lock for you. It is a godsend now I dont need a key to unlock when I'm inside the house to open for deliveries. I use to struggle running around my 3 story town house looking for the key at times. Now I just push the locking mechanism and turn to unlock.

The Yale one mentioned if the battery goes flat, you can remove the front cover at the bottom on the outside and plug a 9v battery into it to make it work

I have the Yale Conexis, no problems with it at all, yes worst case scenario if batteries die whilst you're away on holiday you use a small 9v battery to touch the prongs on the bottom of the conexis. Not a biggy, myself and wife keep a spare battery in our cars, but the lock does give you an audible warning when the batteries are getting low on power.
