My Samsung Pro 840 256GB SSD is giving me a warning in the SMART in HD Tune Pro. It says:

Current Worst Threshold Data Status
(C7) Interface CRC Error Count 99 99 0 21 attention

This error doesn't show up in Samsung Magician or Hard Disk Sentinel though.

Anybody know what it means and whether I should be worried?

first off try using a new sata cable and sata port then see if the errors continue to go up

are you having any other issues with the PC? might be worth running memtest as well to check your ram

Hey there, BaronVonDuncs.

You should follow @ED209's advice, but I have to add that you should backup any important personal data you might have on that drive if you haven't done so alread, just to be on the safe side. If different cables and ports don't fix things up, try it with a different computer as well. Also update the SSD's firmware to see if that changes anything. If the errors still show up and the drive is under warranty, try to get it RMAed.

Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for the useful advice.

Ok I tried that and changed the sata cable and it didn't seem to make any difference. The firmware is the latest version.

What is strange is that the issue only seems to show up in HD Tune Pro. The Samsung Magician software says its fine and doesn't show the issue under SMART.

In the end as its my OS drive I decided to go ahead with a planned update to a 512GB 850 Pro instead. Not sure what I will do with the other drive at this point. I am not sure about an RMA when the problem seems to be limited and wasn't affecting the overall performance of the drive in any way, so I am worried an RMA would be rejected.
