Smart thermostat help

I preferred the look of the Nest. Having had one for almost a year now am happy with the decision.

Fitting it depends on what you've already got. My old boiler thermostat was battery powered, looked like it was from the 80's and only had two wires so was dead easy to change. Other types of boiler have more wires. They do give a lot of info with it. If you're confident wiring a plug then you should be able to figure it out with the instructions.

Totally depends what you want from it.
I went with Evohome for full individual room control and the option for late adding things like underfloor heating and possibly air con.

I'm not sure what I really want.

I just wanted to be able to turn on the heating before getting home and from my bed on cold morning.

I want something modern which wont break the bank

Sometihink eady to fit.

Something that can be built on not something that will need to be replaced in 2-3 years

Nest then.
How can you build on a Nest what can be added to it at a later date?

Id suggest a Honeywell Evohome but only the base unit. Would act like a Nest then.
Later you could add individual radiator thermostats.

Or Tado or Hive I think both offer similar, but Nest certainly doesn't.
Also make sure it has Opentherm, I wouldn't be without that. Your current boiler may not support it but you're next one should.

Well, I guess you can't - unless you count a new boiler or bigger radiators as building on. I added some bigger radiators and the Nest automatically figured out the new heat up times and adjusted accordingly.

All the other criteria the nest fulfils. Plus it doesn't look like a cheap digital picture frame with 'Honeywell' in big bold print on it. :p

i'm going to use the heatmiser neostat when i get my boiler fitted next week although it also needs the neohub to make it smart. only going to work on upstairs rads at first but when i eventually do the downstairs UFH each zones stat will also connect to the hub. been recommended by several plumbers i know.

Thanks guys for the help but im still not sure which to go for thats why ive not too the jump to get on. everyone seam to be coming out with one.
with everyone seemingly offering the same and multi genarations its still not clear to me

my boiler is newish I had a brand new one fitted 3-4 years ago.
the main thermostat is next to the boiler and I have a wireless controller. I dont know the smart ones work but I dont think I would wand it out of reach covered up like this

1. How does the multizone feature work ? do you need to buy addons ??
2. can smart thermostat be adjusted manually or can they only be used with apps ?
3. my hot water works via the boiler I dont have a tank would I need a addon for that also ?
4. Would i need to buy multi thermostats for each traditional thermostat ?

has anyone had any issues after switching to smart thermostats

Here are the 3 ive been looking at, they all seam the same to me.

Nest gen 3 £170
Tado - Starter Kit V3 + £99
HIVE ACTIVE £159

1. Yes, you can only use multizone if you already have a boiler with zones. Alternatively, you could use smart TRVs on your radiators.
2. Yes, they usually can be manually adjusted via the unit.
3. I can only speak for Tado - it uses another unit to control the hot water. If you don't want hot water to be controlled, you can leave that on its current controller.
4. Yes, one smart thermostat for each thermostat you currently have. It sounds like you already have multizone system. Each thermostat would then control the temp in that zone.

Happy with my Tado (in fact just ordered some TRVs) but as already posted, if you buy v3+ kit then you need to pay a monthly fee. Luckily it's just a one-off for existing customers, not sure how it would work if you buy an older kit now

Nest is too expensive in my option I will also need to get a docking station for it also

Tado looks good but I'm not sure I would trust them to not charge for other things later

I'm not sure I would want to pay a monthly fee after spending so much on the kit to start with.

Spread the cost of a nest over 5-10 years and its pennies.

Why buy the inferior product? Get the doorbell too.
