does engabling smart have any negative effects? (poor game peformance)

I have no smart monitoring software so i've always left it disabled.

No, no negative effects. Probably a good idea to leave it enabled as at least your BIOS will then usually inform you of serious SMART warnings.

I havent personnally tested performance difference, but i do believe that it will slow things down.

Hmm, that seems like BS to me - no offence, I mean the quote

HDU's are always monitoring SMART - it's just whether or not we use software to project this, is it not? I have SMART disabled in BIOS but I can still see, with the right sensor program, SMART status. It would seem to be enabled whatever the circumstance.

Just wondering where the performance difference would be (seek time, transfer, etc) I think i'll do some tests to see :cool:
