as title says really.

I do have insurance.

But I would rather try and fix myself

phone still works and camera works fine.

So where is best to buy the back of the phone, and is it easy to fix?

There is a cheapo replacement on ebay for about a tenner, and you can buy the glass that has smashed for about the same, but an OEM part seems to cost about $120 in the US!
 
could you stick a hard case on the back? but i would do insurance, surely its a nice new shiny toy and worth the xs, put it down to one of those things :(

What?! According to my boss here the "glass" on the iphone4 is made of the same glass they made military grade helicopters with. How did you manage to break it!?!?! :p

"Gorilla glass" is not as strong as those tests seem to indicate on the net. I dropped my milestone oddly and the screen cracked like a spiderweb, despite it apparently being indestructible or something.

It would seem replacement backs are expensive and don't include the glass (or something to that effect), just let your insurance sort it out, I think Apple repair it for about £150.

Only the screen on the iphone4 is gorilla glass. The back is regular, pay Apple to fix it glass.
 
I wonder if any 3rd parties start selling backs using different materials? The glass was the major turn off for me! (having had the chrome/mirror finsh 5th gen iPod I knew it wouldn't look good/last for long :p)

A rubberized version would be sweet! Or how about carbon fibre/kevlar? :)

I'd just go with your insurance mate, thats what its there for :)

By the way i'd avoid crossposting on the forums as you might get a visit from the mods ;)
 
Surprised no Carbon Fibre shells are out for phones yet, I'd buy one in an instant!
