Guys, just noticed some smearing on the front of my Panny 42" PZ80 plasma screen - appears my missus has cleaned it with the bloody polish or window cleaner - even though I've always told her not to :(

Is there anything I can do to reverse this, or is it a case of nothing can be done to restore it and I'll just have to put up with it?

Thankfully it's not that apparent when watching, but I know it's there and that bugs me

I used to have to clean my TV daily until it was all mounted. My little one was always touching the screen. You can buy a bottle of screen wash and a lint free cloth and give it a good clean with that, should be able to pick one up from any local retailer I cant find a link to one from ocuk so I dont think they sell anything. A bottle of the cleaner should last you a good while and my actually came with a free cloth.

I've got plenty of lint free microfibre cloths, and my normal cleaning routine was always to clean it with a damp lint free cloth (tepid water only) then dry it with another.

Always worked great and I use the same process for my PC monitor, so I know it definitely wasn't my cleaning that caused the damage :(

Will pick up one of the screen cleaning kits and see if that works, but I fear it may be irreversable.

I always use the cloth that comes with the telly (damp) and one I got with another telly (dry). Removes my son's grubby fingers from our Panny G10. Judging by your post, it seems you'll have tried that?

Yeah, tried that, and tried warmer water and rubbing in a circular polishing like motion, but to no avail :(

From what I've read before, harsh chemicals on a plasma screens with a protective layer (i.e. most of them) are a real no-no as you're essentially destroying it rather than it being something you can wipe off. You could try a proper plasma screen cleaner, but I have a feeling it might be ****'ed... in which case I'd present her with the bill for either repairs - if it can be done - or a new TV seeing as it's her fault.

Damn bad news indeed mate, I'm always checking my TV since my gf's sister when she house sat for us claimed she clean the TV.

Scares me since I know they use polish an all sorts on their TV's and claim it doesn't affect them. In daylight i see obvious marks on the computers and Tv's at the in laws.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Just as a little bit of an update I have emailed Panasonic to ask for advice and will update the post once (if) they respond.

Well, got a reply from Panasonic, as expected, apparently there is nothing I can do, the screen is damaged beyond repair :(

Seeing that is the case, I am going to consider trying some car polishing/cutting compounds or glass polish to see if I can improve it.

Will do some research first to find out which is the least harsh and have a crack at it.

Autoglym Glass Polish, may be the best bet here.

Yeah, going to try several things. Am even contemplating cleaning a very small portion of it with Akasa Tim Remover (lemon based) just in case the marks on the screen are merely oily residue from the polish.

Oh and :D:D:p at some of the comments about my missus :D

You told her specifically not to do it, because it would ruin the TV, and she just ignored you and did it anyway. Imagine if you'd have left an iron mark on her dress or something? You'd never hear the end of it.

This is why a personal man-cave is a necessity, no women allowed to enter and ruin things with their meddling!

Try carnauba wax. Look for a car polish that contains this, any brand will do. Just mix it with a little warm water first and gently rub on the screen in a slow light circular motion until the screen is covered. Gently remove the wax with warm water.

It's best to use a micro-fibre cloth. I couldn't get my plasma 100% perfect with this but it damn close.

I would suggest going to a professional glazing company and buying some of the soft coat glass cleaner that they use for cleaning soft coat glazing. This stuff will remove almost any residue without damaging surface coatings.
