A weird one but hopefully others have experienced this and know why it happens.

Whenever I wash dishes or take them out of the dishwasher when outer doors/windows with fresh air circulating a weird smell, which I can only describe as wet dog comes from them. Is this a known thing? Why does it happen?
I'm not sure if I'm doing something that makes this more prevalent such as the cleaning products I use. Or perhaps lack of rinsaid... Who knows.

No dog and yeah we've tried cleaning the dishwasher. It's something I've noticed in other houses and when washing dishes by hand, so I don't think it's necessarily the dishwasher.

I think it's more prevalent now because we had some work done in our kitchen which means we have more outside airflow.

See this is the issue. It doesn't seem to be a known thing but I have no idea why it consistently happens.

I've got a glass that smells a bit wet dog when I take it out of the dishwasher, but I've never been able to figure out why. Doesn't seem to affect anything else.
We've found anything plastic is fine. It tends to be crockery and yes sometimes glasses.

We now make sure all doors and windows are shut a few mins before opening the dishwasher and that we unload as soon as opening it.

Thing OP has one too many vaccinations :D

Finish do this thing that goes into the dishwasher for an empty heavy cycle. Cleans it nicely. Just give the filters a clean too.

I'm almost certain it's not to do with how clean the dishwasher is.
The kitchen is new and they smelt before we used this dishwasher and after.
I always wash in the highest setting. l'm going to experiment with temperature and dishwasher tablets to see if that makes a difference.

How new are the dishes, do they have scratches and marks where detergent can build up?

Maybe try adding some white vinegar to a hot wash.
Couple of years old. Denby so decent quality and no obviously deap scratches.

Given the information I've given the common demonstors are water and air.

Just thought this may be a known thing but clearly not.

Hard or soft water area? I've found that heating hard water up can occasionally stink and have a horrendous taste. Does your dishwasher need it's salt chamber filling up.

Leeds which is hard I believe. I've not added salt since overdoing it on our previous dishwasher and it leaving a salt residue which you could taste. I'm relatively new to dishwashers and haven't learnt the benefits of rinsaid or salt.

Sounds like they are not drying properly? I get it with washing when it doesn't dry 100%. Regrettably I'm too poor to own a dishwasher :(
Yeah dryness seems to contribute to it. This is why once the dishwasher is open we try and unload it straight away so crockery doesn't stay near any residual water.
