Smelly washing machine

how weird that this has popped up again.

The smell came back recently and I ended up taking the machine apart to try and see if I could see something was wrong.

I think the main problem was that the waste pipe under the sink had a slight fall on it.
We emptied all the water out of the waste pipe, turned it so it was "uphill" and then cleaned the machine with Dr Seuss stuff again and it has been fine since :)

Well our John Lewis machine is now around 5 - 6 years old and even Beckmanns at 90C is struggling to keep it smelling sweet. At some point will probably just have to replace it, though might give a bleach clean a shot.

After doing either of the above, I make sure to give my machine a good airing by leaving both the drawer and door open. But really you should leave them ajar while the machine isn't in use.

easier said than done if you have pets/small people for example.

plus i lost track of how many times ive cracked my knee on the door while making coffee at my parents.

We use the Dettol washing machine cleaner (got 3 bottles for 7 quid from Costco) and it keeps it smelling sweet but yes leave the door open after each wash for a couple of hours to allow to dry.

Sticking a load of bleach in the drum and running the tub clean function sorts the smells out for me.

Once finished wipe around the door a seal with a clean damp cloth and then leave the door open to air dry.
