well among other things (trying to sort out my VX2025s DVI) i am also now getting a screenfull of smiley faces and clubs/spadeson occasion when i turn the computer on. it goes away after a second or two but its a little disconcerting. i cna get into the bios fine and i have tried reloading the settings from defaults but no change.

just wondered if anyone else had seen it.

any chance you could take a pic of the screen when these come up and post it here?

sounds like a virus, at what point are you getting these pictures, before or after the windows loading screen?

way before the loading screen, just after the grapics card boot and before rest of the post. i'll get a pic.

in order of appearance. ignore the distorion as thats just my crappy lens lol.

im going to try booting with just my old screen instead of this new one as i swear i never got it before.

well my 6300 arrives tomorrow and i didnt do anything special when i put in the new motherboard and ram and now the cpu so i think maybe i'll just do a format tomorrow as i can get XP and my usual stuff on fast enough. very strange though :(

Lol thats mad, have to say the same as the rest i'm afraid. No idea what that is, never seen anything like that before. Not some feature of the gpu or bios is it, meaning everything is ok, no problems. Bit of a wild guess i know, but other than that i'm stumped.

i could do i suppose, my brother also has a 7800GTX i can drop in to test. i havnt tested with the old monitor yet as i am just compiling a list of bits i need to install and benchmarks to run once i drop the new C2D in tomorrow.

what i found odd for my monitor is that in RivaTuner if i load the EDID data from the monitor it gives the max resolution as 1680x2010416548. needless to say its complete nonsence but that also may go some way to explain my problems getting my DVI to work on this screen, though i dont see how. ViewSonic will be getting a call in the morning about it.

my guess it'll be to do with the video card, the symbols are standard ASCII ones and sometimes if there is a problem with the video card it will display them - i'm not sure why it would be doing it in this case, but a bios update for the motherboard and checking the power connectors etc would probably be a good idea.
If there is a video card bios update it might be worth checking that as well as it could be a minor incompatibility between the motherboard (or one of it's bios settings) and the card.

It won't be anything to do with the OS or drivers as it's happening at a bios or hardware level.

well i am already running the F10 bios on the DS3, not checked for a GPU update but i have tried the other monitor and it didnt happen, then tried this one again and it still didnt happen so i am totaly stumped lol.

I reckon God has hacked into your PC and is trying to contact you.

Never seen anything like that before.

I've seen this on one of my machines a long time ago either when the bios was corrupted on the vga card after an update or when it was a hardware problem and needed RMA.

It wasn't quite as distinctive as your problem though :) was only 1 or 2 of them
