I 'inherited' a car (a C3) and I want to sell it. I'm more inclined to sell it privately - and the car has two or three small dents and scratches, mainly around the wheelarch areas.

How can I quickly remove the scratches and smooth out the dents without resorting to expensive garages, etc?

As well as that, what are the cheapest/easiest ways of cleaning and polishing a car, inside and out, in order to make them nice and shiny? The profit margin is everything to me here, so anything that will cut costs will do :-)

Well there is nothing you can personally do about the dents, the scratches however you can minimise by using minimising products such as megs scratch x (which I haven't personally used) or a mild polish such as Autoglym Super Resin Polish, which will make the scratch/mark look a bit more pleasing to the eye. You can also use this to reduce the appearance of swirl marks, to give the bodywork a fresher look.

As for cheapest and easiest way of cleaning, just pop down to your supermarket and get a generic shampoo, rinse the car, shampoo, dry it and then go over with Autoglym super resin with some polishing cloths. As for the inside, just use a damp cloth and wipe down the surfaces, you can make it look tidy if you take time and care over little details which count, you don't have to use the most expensive products in the world. Also get some trim polish for those black plastic parts on the exterior of the car.

Cheapest way to clean it would be to use fairy liquid and a brillo pad. Easiest way to get rid of the scratches is to blend them in with a kitchen scourer.

May not be the best way though.
