SMP Client Question

Hey All,

I was going to use the SMP client through VMware virtual server... but I'm taking it that I'm going to need a 64bit version of XP installed to run it right? Let me know asap please...

32bit XP is all you need, well that and a 64bit Linux distro, and VMware will do the rest.

I would recommend Arch Linux, but Ubuntu seems to be more popular around here.

I tried it on a 32bit XP (using a centrino Duo) and keeps telling me that my host OS needs to be 64bit to run it... is that true??

As fumbles says, the Linux OS has to be 64 bit, the version of XP is not important (I'm sure most people are using standard 32 bit XP, as I am).

You may have downloaded the 32 bit version of Ubuntu. This post here is an updated version of what I used to get going through VMWare, hopefully it will be of help.

You need a 64 Bit CPU and 64 Bit Linux Distro to use the SMP client. The environment in which VMWare runs is irrelevant.

As far as I know, all centrino duo (as opposed to Core 2 Duo) are 32 bit and won't be able to run 64 bit Linux.

I have a super M1710 sitting here and can't run SMP on it because it's not 64 bit

Ah trollocks I thought that the T2500 was 64bit enabled... there goes that plan then... doesn't mean that I wont be trying it on my 6800 though
