Hey All,

Hey installed VMware on my 4300 folding computer and its not letting me install 64bit Ubuntu for some reason... saying that my CPU is not 64bit

I have a 4300 and a Asrock Conroe945G-DVI... any ideas??

Apparently the 4300 doesn't do virtualisation (from what I've found on google anyway) so that'll be it I think.

I'm unsure if that means a native install would work or not

nope :p

Believe me I would love to but there's no point having beta software if you can't report any problems with it.

I wouldn't expect it to be closed beta for long though, Vijay only announced the other week that it was with external alpha testers and we're already in closed beta now.

You're trying to virtualize Linux on top of Windows. This doesn't work so well because you don't have VT. If you wanted to run Linux natively you could do so with no problems.

So wanted to do that but I dont know how to get my wireless card working under linux... any ideas??

Depending on what wireless card it is it can be easy or it can be a real bear. Atheros chipsets are 100% supported. Most Intel ones work with ndiswrapper. Broadcom ones suck. :p

Start a thread in LOS&OSX if you're interested.

My X2 doesnt have virtualisation, iirc, that was introduced in AM2 as pacifica and it works ok for me, the only difference i found with vt on/off on my 930 was higher cpu usage in windows at idle on an os in vmware.

hmm you're right - my X2 doesn't have it either according to what I've read though it does work fine with Ubuntu in VMware

edit: of course it is still just a much better CPU ;) :D
