When you text multiple people on an iPhone, does it send the message as an MMS instead of SMS?

I have £17 worth of MMS messages (68x25p) where I have text 34 people each time, twice!

I am with Tesco Mobile

I have turned off MMS. This is shocking, £17 on two text messages just because there was multiple people

What happens if MMS if off and I try sending it again?

I am going to report this crap on Twitter and move to EE next week if I dont get the £17 removed

It was a small text (35 words) but going to 34 people at a time. Each time it cost me £8.50

How does it manage to send it if MMS is off?

Yeah this really ****ed me off when I noticed it on my Android phone, as I quite often send very long messages.

No idea why it's set as the default, since most people have a very generous allowance of free SMS, but MMS are almost always charged...

How can I have MMS on to receive but off to send? I have put MMS off in message settings, will I be able to receive?

The text was only short but to a lot of people

Yeah I was having a similar problem except my long txt's were simply not being sent as I had turned off MMS in my o2 account

Never had the problem on my heavily hacked HD2, long txt's were simply sent as 2,3,4 x text credits.
The only way I managed to get around this on my Samsung Note was to install GoSMSPro, now my texts never get converted to MMS no matter how long they are:D

For Android you can download an SMS app like Handcent which allows you to increase the limit. Not sure about iPhone.

lol. of course they do. Most of my friends dont have smart phones (or even computers)

I can but try - If not ill switch to EE on 4g next week

This won't matter if your phone is sending them as MMS. EE still charge for MMS as do all UK providers IIRC.

You need to stop your phone from converting them to MMS

I have turned off MMS on my phone. How does my phone send message to multiple people now? Or do I have to message people individually???

Absolute ****ers

This, as I said it's a software issue not a network one.

You should be ranting at Apple not Tesco Mobile.

Yeah I first noticed this when I tried to send a long message, i changed it in hand cent.
I bet it makes phone companies quite a bit of cash. Shouldn't be on by default
