Hey guys

I have AOL broadband and i use thunderbird for my Gmail account In order to get my mail i currently use the Tiscali SMTP server but this has become very tedious as it now requires approximately 15 attempts at sending before the message goes.

Unfortunately AOL doesn't alow sending via anything other than AOL addresses over it's SMTP server.

Has anyone got any alternatives? and yes i could use webmail to get my gmail but i preffer to use thunderbird - thanks for your help in advance

Not having to use a stupid web browser every time you want to check your messages?

The SMTP relay service from Gradwell only gives you an outgoing SMTP server, though - remember it doesn't host email accounts for you.

Using this SMTP server are there any obvious advantages of using it over webmail.

For me personally not having to refresh to see if there is new mail,

Will look at gradwell, as i don;t mind paying for a good service

As far as I know, smtp.uk.aol.com doesn't only allow emails to other aol addresses.

Hmmm will try that as i was using smtp.aol.com

Edit: what port setting do i need?

25.

I guess that smtp.aol.com doesn't recognise you as an AOL user so it is only allowing relaying to aol.com addresses - the same as it would for being being a non AOL user.
