Hi all,

Just bought an SN25P with the following specs..

3700 sandiego @ Stock
x800gto2 @ x850xt speeds
1 x 74 raptor and 1 x 160 maxtor sata drives
2 x 1gig corsair xms 3200cpt cas 2

The machine will run spot on with just one stick in the machine, However put the other stick in and it would not boot. Anyway messed about with voltage and timings, and finally got into windows with 2 gig. Trouble is, it just isnt stable. Even with the timings slackend as far as they will go i cannot get this thing stable (3-7-7-15!!) Tried voltage at 2.6-2.9 and neither will help. Changing from T1 to T2 dosent help either.

Both sticks are memtested and work fine, i just cant understand it? Can anybody shed any light on this? If not, anybody else with the SN25 tell me which 2 gig ram combination they use?

Thanks

I have 2 GB kit working ( thought its a Gskill kit) and its working fine

Maybe its a case of needing an updated bios? I have had my 25P for a few weeks so maybe someone else can help

well it probably aint what you need to hear, but i ran 2x512 c2pt fine on mine a while back.

try both in single stick config to check for faulty ram.

mushkin ram is good with the sn25p btw.

I use Corsair XMS PRO in both my shuttles and it is a brand I have never had issues with, this may seem unrelated, but the Sata cables supplied with the P series are renowned for giving problems, swap them out and try that.

Other than that I would swap out the CPU as it has a memory controller on chip iirc on the newer cores

Check the shuttle site, and see if it's listed as compatible.

I've got many SN25P's and SN26P's and most use Corsair kits, so it sounds like bad RAM.

Best by far is the Platinum OCZ 2GB kit :)

well mushkin is the only memory(including the corsair xms range) that my shuttle has recognised and set appropriate timings for on boot up.

thats what i call compatibility. :)

how is the OCZ best by far?...........mushkin has same timings is better looking and cheaper....oh and compatible 100% with the sn25p.

I have 8 Shuttles and all the ones using OCZ are 100% compatible ;)

Oh and I'm just going on my experience with the RAM (used both the Corsair XMS, and the OCZ Plat)

EDIT: I bought the OCZ and the Corsair when they were on offer on "this week" only.. so they were cheaper than Muskin

Well i ended up plumping for the muskin kit and it booted first time with two gig :)

Still cant understand why the xms wouldnt work

It was tested with mem test in single stick config and both sticks did over 9hrs each, without error.

Heh ho, at least it works now :D

i am running 2x512 of old BH5 (Corsair XMS3500C2-PT) in mine, strange problem is, when i used a 166 divider to give me 233mhz @ 2-3-2-5 it passed 4 loops of memtest but crashed as soon as i got into windows.... using a 133 divider to give me 193 -2-2-2-5 its fine,....

its strage but i am happy at close to 200 with tight timings, its just a shame the cpu wont do 300x10 because that would give me a nice round 200 :p

i might swap my brother actually for his ballistixs because i cant give it enough volts and he can (ultra-d)
