Evenin all,

No shouting for pic's please as I'm looking for advice and tips. I've a somewhat jelly like idea knocking about on what to do with my trusty old SN25P.

the basic premise is to lower temps, reduce noise and perhaps increase oc'ing headroom a touch ( should naturally follow with lower temps ) also like the idea of tinkering just for tinkerings sake

I'm not asking for links or competitors but would like to know if such things exist as

very long sata cables pref 1 mtr long or just under, also a method of extending molex power cables, can cables be picked up with male / female ends ?

I'm planning to attach a drive cage under my desk towards the rear, where my hdd's will sit cooled by a 120m fan. I'm also considering removing the standard shuttle psu completely and mounting an atx psu rated higher 500 w + under the desk as well. I'm cutting out the centre section of the side panels ( I know its a u shaped case with no panels lol but you get my drift ) leaving approx 1"all the way around, this will leave a cracking appeture for mesh and removes the orrible shuttle embossed logo's

With the psu out of the system I want to mount 2 x 90 m fans where the psu used to sit exhausting the air from inside the system, with 2 x 120m's on the inside of the mesh on the left hand side drawing cool air in, I'm seeing if it's possible to get a decent cpu cooler in at the expense of removing the 3.5" fdd/hdd cage which sits below the optical drive bay.

If this is all possible I'm then spraying / powdercoating the case in gloss black, and removing the plastic bezels from the front of the system and ensuring they get a matching coat. I love my shuttle honest I do but boy it's ugly in slate/grey/blue it's the john major of shuttles on the outside I tell ya.

of course i know I'll prolly have to knock up a custom mounting bracket or retention system for the cpu cooler but I've got a few rough sketches to hand.

All advice and input is welcome ( even if it's only buy a proper pc lol )

cheers

Hehe, so tempting, but I'm always one for crazy ideas.

I'm not sure about the sata leads, but i'm sure you could get a few reels of wire and crimp your own extensions for the PSU.

Now for my random thought:
If you're just going to have the motherboard in the case, why not prune it a bit so its only a few centimetres thick? You could then have a big tower cooler sticking up from the middle out of the case. The only problem with that is PCI cards being too tall and getting in the way.

PK!

misterPK, I'd thought about lopping off approx 1/3rd of the case losing the memory card read and current optical drive bay and installing a slot loaing laptop drive in to in but I do like a reasonable gpu in my systems and don't fancy a half hieght afair. loving the cpu cooler poking out idea :D

Steeps, point taken fella prolly get away with 1 x 120 m quality fan on the side and perhaps 1 x in the former psu space. if my plans to lose the fdd caddy work out i could get a really decent cooler in for the cpu which should generate next to no noise. must admit is a noisy bugger atm.

Thanks for the info so far, more always welcome

I was planning something similar with a G2 chassis, cooling the entire case (including PSU) from a single 120mm fan. Got a couple of photos at the attempt, however I didn't continue the effort as I needed to cut up the lid and find ways of securing things down.
