System comprises:

Shuttle SN27P2
AMD Athlon 64x2 4200+
2x512mb Corsair Value Select Kit
Conect3d Radeon X1800

It won't boot at all. Fans and drives spin up, but other than that not a sausage.

Green light comes on the motherboard, red lightscome on and go off on the graphics card. I've tried changing the memory around. There are no beeps.

Any suggestions as to what i'm doing wrong?

If you can't boot then you can't troubleshoot. Is there a competent computer shop near you that could help out or do know anyone with DDR2 system that could help?

Don't know anyone with a DDR2 system, got all the stuff from OcUK this morning.

My gut feeling is that it's memory, but as you say with nothing coming up on the monitor it's pretty hard to troubleshoot.

Are there any known issues with shuttles and memory? I know some boards don't like some brands.

Do shuttles not have an internal speaker? Beep codes are so handy!

It's Corsair 1GB DDR2 Value Select PC5300 by the way.

I would be shocked if it did not support DC out of the box. DC was out LONG before AM2 so the bios should handle it. And, with AMD, many times you could atleast get into the bios and flash with a DC CPU even if the bios did not fully support it.

Again, I'd contact Shuttle. They should be able to tell you. Also, if you or anyone you know has a single core AM2 CPU, you can test it. Does your retailer have a test bench at the store? If the DC CPU is the problem, they should be able to flash it since they sold it to you.

retailer was OcUK.

I'll send the support form off to Shuttle tonight, might ring OcUK again as well.

It does say on the website that rev3 supports DC, i'll have a look at what i've got.

if its ram, it usually makes the beeping signals?

could it be the PSU?
Also did you try putting everything together again?
I usually just connect the CPU, RAM, Graphics card and turn it on, if it works then connect the hdd, dvd etc.
Usually resitting the CPU/Ram does the trick, if not you seriously need to test out all the components on another rig, to narrow it down.

I'm arranging an RMA.

I don't know anyone else with a dual core AMD system and i'm not going out of pocket to test it.

just out of curiousity. is the 12v connecter plugged into the mobo (small 4 pin one) as having that unplugged gives the same symtoms you have

there is nothing that looks important that isn't plugged in.

Either shuttles are slightly weird inside re power connections or the atx standard has chaged.

actually now you mention it, i do remember reading somewhere that the newer shuttles have different power connectors to the ATX standard

would it be worth buying a cheap SC cpu to test with just incase it doesnt support DC. i too would find i thard to believe it doesnt support DC out the box but you never know

theres nothing in the bios revision history that would indicate DC support has been added though http://web.shuttle.com/share/fae/hq/download/bios_rdm/readmefn27.htm

I've RMA'd it back now. They suggested leaving the graphics processor and memory in so just in case.

Who gets the bad news regarding postage in these circumstances? It cost £18.50 to send SD.

i think OcUK should refund you the postage (sure they did with a g-card i RMA'd a few years ago)? though im not sure on that. you'd have to phone them up and ask

I can confirm that it would support DC out of the box :)
(Mines running on a FX62 on an out of the box BIOS)

Sounds like dead RAM, or possibly a corrupted BIOS
