'Snooper's Charter' law being rushed through.

If we leave the EU I think I am moving to mainland Europe, there's no telling how far our government will push the "you need to give up this freedom for security" line without the EU courts curtailing them.

Is anyone actually happy with all these bills/laws at the moment? I haven't read a great deal into it but from what I have read/heard it's not looking good for freedom on the internet..

The headline from BBC says it all to me:

"PM asks if we want paedophiles and extremists to communicate without it being possible to intercept communications"

Lets emotionally charge a statement to such regard that anyone who responds to it without full agreement, will already be in a negative light. That is horrible politics.

Spot on. Sensationalise it to make a point and get everyone excited about it so that they miss the main point of what they're trying to do.

It'll push more and more people into the deep web or actually lead people to more nefarious activities as a result.

I'm quite relaxed about all this, much more concerned about civil rights infringements carried out by Islamic extremists and paedophile rings who will hopefully find it more difficult to operate thanks to this sort of legislation.

Some European countries have already implemented this. The UK is slacking at curtailing our freedoms ! Today's railroading is just a catch up for the sake of the children.

Google "Data Retention Directive" for the background.

Cat amongst the pigeons here, but this does work to prosecute the former. I don't deal with the latter so cannot comment on that.

exactly my thoughts.

Unfortunately there are always going to be a vocal group lunatic liberal luvvies who just bellow and shout about things like this. Hopefully though these new measures will prevent crimes being committed against innocents.

We do need to update laws to take in to account advances in modern technology.

However rushing legislation through is never a good idea and I would prefer a proper debate rather than a political stitch up.
