Hey guys

I've recently discovered since spending most nights with my girlfriend lately that I snore like a train

This really bothers me as I know it's waking her up sometimes as she's always knackered in the mornings, and it's not a nice feeling knowing you sound like a dodgy car exhaust when your sound asleep

Has anyone got any ways of preventing it or at least helping it a little? Would really appreciate it, most likely so would my girlfriend lol

Cheers

I believe you can get nasal sprays which clear the sinuses and that could help although you may need to go to the doctor to get them prescribed.

Before you do that though have you tried changing your sleeping position? Flat on the back is more likely to lead to snoring from the little I know about it.

try nasal strips, they work for some people

failing that just stop breathing, although that may be a bit extreme :p

Its known that certain minor medical conditions can cause snoring. If your snoring is that bad then it may be an idea to consult your GP.

Nasal strips work for some people so it might be worth a try

Also some chemists offer a copper ring (think its copper) where it has two bumps on the inside, this is supposed to grip the back of the finger/nerve which can stop snoring.

Dunno if works or not, but have defo seem them.

I'm in the same boat.

I bought some strips that help stop me snoring. They look like those very thin ice strips that melt on the roof of your mouth and it somehow stops you snoring. I got them from boots but I think they were £5-8 which is probably quite expensive if you are using them every night, they work well though.

Thanks for the advice guys, helpful as always. Will look into those strips and maybe ask my doctor just incase it is something a little more. That copper ring sounds like an interesting idea

I have tried sleeping on my stomach before but apparently as soon as I'm asleep I just roll straight over lol :(

lol sounds like me, Im quite a heavy snorer at times, and I have tried laying on my front, but soon as I doze off, I roll over and lay on my back lol.

You don't have a problem, I do!

Tell her to hit you when you're snoring. I've always told girlfriends to do this, and it tends to make me stop for a short while, but they tell me i soon start again... so i tell them to hit me harder or push me so i roll over. It doesn't take long before you train yourself not to snore in my experience. Between gfs i start snoring again, so each new one gets the joy of re-training me ;)

I have told her to do this, infact last night I recieved an almighty kick to the happy sack, not sure she intended it, probably did, but that certainly woke me up, but I soon started again

I've always been a mouth breather when asleep, so as soon as I dose off, I start breathing really heavily, I just need to train myself to breathe through my nose when asleep

The best solution is for your girlfriend to sleep in my bed. I don't snore.

I got a spray from the chemist for the back of your throat when I was on holiday with friends as I snore loudly. It worked for me. It was about 8 quid though I'm sure, but lasts about 2-4 weeks. Maybe more.

Just a couple of sprays before you go to bed (after teeth brush/drink as if you have a drink you have to redo it).

I use Boots own spray together with Breathrite Nasal strips (don't use Boots own strips, they're rubbish).

Failing that, ovary punch obviously.
