Snoring

the best thing to do for most people is to lose weight. If you are already a skinny so and so then go see your GP, but if you realise you used to have a nice slim 15 1/2" collar but now its 17 1/2" and you have moobs then first line is to lose the lard

Hey guys

I've recently discovered since spending most nights with my girlfriend lately that I snore like a train

This really bothers me as I know it's waking her up sometimes as she's always knackered in the mornings, and it's not a nice feeling knowing you sound like a dodgy car exhaust when your sound asleep

Has anyone got any ways of preventing it or at least helping it a little? Would really appreciate it, most likely so would my girlfriend lol

Cheers

Overweight, smoke, drink?

You only tend to snore sleeping on your back, breathing through your mouth - as I sleep on my side and breath through my nose I'm safe :)

The stips work to open up your nose - might help you stop breathing through your mouth. I know how hard it is to change which side you sleep on though.

Surely you've seen comedy sketches where people have sewn tennis balls to the back of their pyjamas? That'll stop you sleeping on your back - you won't get much sleep until you get used to not sleeping on your back though.

When my now ex boyfriend used to live here, I ended up elbowing him in the arm every time he rolled onto his back so that he would turn on his side again. I ended up with ear plugs as well.
I dont miss him! :D

Overweight, smoke, drink?

Nooo, I'm definitely not overweight, only a social drinker, and I don't smoke

I'm staying there tonight and going to Boots today for some of those strips and maybe the spray

Will report back

I'm going to try sleeping on my stomach tonight though see what happens

Sorry to bump an old thread but it's the most recent relevant one.

I snore like a chainsaw (at least according to the missus) so finally decided to try and do something before I end up sleeping in the garage (or strangled).

I tried that Stop Snoring preparation (throat spray) last night but while I felt it helped my breathing, according to the wife my snoring was as bad as ever. The only thing it does leave is a rather unpleasant side effect of a sore, dry, peppery throat. Will persevere as maybe the effect is culmative.

I notice the chemist also selling the rings (at £30 a shot) which are also claimed to stop snoring but I'm very skeptical about those.

Any appliance worn inside the mouth is a no, no as I have a fairly sensitive gag reflex, even cleaning my teeth sometimes make me wretch, not to mention a morbid fear of choking on the thing.

So any suggestions (short of stopping breathing or the headsman from The Tudors) would be appreciated!

I used to be able to hear my dad snoring from the room next door, he tried a lot of things after me complaining lots that I couldn't sleep, and in the end he settled with that ring, although it didn't eliminate the snoring totally, it significantly reduced the snoring :)

I lie on my side and that helps.

Drinking causes snorefests as well, more than 2 pints usually triggers me.
