Well first of all, its just getting worse here, its still snowing and has been now for about 6 hours, i went out in the car and it wasnt too bad at all really, just a skimming on the road, got down the hill a bit and was using the gearbox to hold me back when the front just went and i hit a kerb side on, only doing about 5mph, just a scuff on the alloys on the near side, still not impressed! I went about my business and came back, cant even get up the road now, had to abandon at some obscure angle at the bottom of the road, about 2-3 inches of settled snow around here now!

Lets hear some of your snow related stories :)

Let a bit of air out the tyres perhaps?

There is not really any snow here today so I will just go to my jobs as usual.

how can 2-3 inches settled where you live yet here i see about 2-3 cm with all the roads clear, and its hardly snowing

Well from the route I took today as far as I can see my road is far worse than any I have been on, the main roads are all clear, just horrible and dirty, smaller roads fine too, where I am situated is quite high to the rest of the town and the road isnt treated with grit. I came up the road and the tyre marks from this morning have all been covered up. :) Come and see for yourself if you want :p

you prolly live on brizvally?

i used to live in winshill, which is hill city

now i live in swad and its not really snowing here at all, just a light sheet of it

RWD + snow + drive sloping downwards = can't get car to move.....
Had to get the shovel out and clear the snow all the way to the road....then parked it up and used the missus Scenic to take the kids to school....

Don't you want more air for snow?

No, less, to give you that little more traction on the road. Luckily mine were under inflated anyway as I checked them before I went out so I didnt have to worry, just got to pump them a little when it all melts.

softer tires = more tyre area on the road = more grip

but i know what you mean

that makes sense in wet/greasy conditions, but this is snow.

Ideally with snow you want hard thin tyres to cut through it. More surface area on snow = less grip.

Just a light scattering here so far. The junction at the end of our road is still lethal though (as usual) drop it through the gears, into first, feathering the brakes, get to about 3mph with car juddering like mad, foot on clutch- sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide :p Luckily there was nothing coming so off I just eased off the brakes and off I went.

Still coming down though and I've got 70 miles to do today, if the schools stay open that is.
