Snow is on the way to UK next month

We had the effects of a warm-core storm. Categorise it however you want.

We still don't have hurricanes though. A hurricane is a specific name for a specific type of storm, which we don't get in the UK and cannot get in the UK.

We can get bad storms with winds as fast as those fuond in a hurricane but it still isn't a hurricane.

I do understand that, but it doesn't detract from the fact that we felt the effects of a hurricane here (note: they weren't hurricane speeds by the time it got here so would have been downgraded anyway).

I still remember the typhoon we had in the early 90s.

Reading this thread does make me wonder why 'we' British talk so much about the weather given its fairly average compared to many other countries?

Well we are an island and are weather never tends to be very consistent. A lot of mainland continent countries will tend to have much more typical weather than we do.

Snow is what causes more talk than anything and I'd say that's because for a very good number of years we've had very mild winters. Its only the past couple that winters have returned with lower temperatures and snow.

I speak to my parents and they remember that nearly every winter used to have snow and be quite cold, but for the majority of my lifetime (29) there has been little snow at winter.

So with snow being a very new occurrence for many people, especially the young, it quickly becomes something special. Couple this with our lack of resources to clear snow and the fact that we now have lots of health and safety red tape and the country becomes frozen, so to speak. It's then an excuse for too many people in this country to see it as a day off work.

Snow is the most beautiful of all weather, even in places that get it a lot, it still has a charm.

Aren't Typhoons a Hurricaine that spins in the opposite direction?
